We continue exploring the New3dge 2024 student projects. Here is Harmonic, a project born from the school’s “Common Worlds” concept. As with Lunar – Data Vault, students from the concept art, animation/VFX, and game art programs collaborated on a shared universe.
Here is the pitch for Harmonic:
In the realm of Euterphia, the power of sound and music is used to manipulate the environment. Elder, a wise old sage, wields this power to preserve the harmony of the cosmos.
He transmits his knowledge to a young boy of the town called Lyron. While the teacher shows his apprentice the symphony of flowers, a dark force prepares to sow chaos, threatening to disrupt the delicate balance of the realm.
Let’s begin with an overview of the concept arts. We are introduced to Euterphia, whose style is inspired by Ancient Greece, leading to the choice of a coastal environment with calm waters.
The animation/VFX students brought this universe to life. They used the same stylized artistic direction, particularly with the textures. The Ancient Greece inspiration is present as well. Students also implemented FX, notably including destruction effects.
Motion capture was used, and the making-of gives us a glimpse of this process.
Finally, the Game Art team brought this city to life, inviting us to play as Lyron, who must retrieve an artifact in the mountains. Here’s the game trailer and a preview of the gameplay:
