SIGGRAPH 2024 will be held from July 28 to August 1 in Denver, USA. The location might surprise some, as SIGGRAPH typically takes place in key cities of the visual effects and 3D animation industry, like Los Angeles and Vancouver. However, this is a return to its roots: the very first SIGGRAPH was held in Boulder, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, in 1974! 600 people attended the event that year.
Back to 2024. Once again, French competitiveness cluster Cap Digital is organizing a French Pavilion. The concept: a strategically located shared space in the heart of the Exhibition Floor. This way, these French companies are in the spotlight, but don’t have to spend as much as they would if they had separate booths.
Here are the six companies announced for this edition:
Lynx, TechViz: VR/MR made in France
Lynx, a startup known for the Lynx R-1, a wireless mixed reality headset, will be featured. The device use transparent lenses, and 3D content is overlayed on top. The HMD is lightweight and doesn’t make you feel as confined as other headsets.
We interviewed Lynx CEO Stan Larroque during Virtuality 2022. The video is available below (audio in French, English subtitles are available).
On the software side, TechViz will also be featured on the French Pavilion. This company provides a collaborative tool that allows you to visualize your 3D data in VR. This software is compatible with more than 200 applications (including Catia and Creoà, without any data conversion. You can modify your model in real time using the native CAD software.
AI: Enginn, Chat 3D
Two AI/Generative AI companies will be featured. The first is focused on audio, the second on 3D models. Generative AI is of course a hot topic, with massive possibilities, but also huge legal and ethical issues.
Led and co-founded by Yann Hourdel, Enginn Technologies offers a SaaS platform to assist with voice dubbing for the creative industries. Primarily targeting video games and animation stidops, the tool generates personalized voices, can be used to generate audio dialogues from text, can also be used to manage all this data.
Chat 3D, led and co-founded by Felix Balmonet, is a generative AI solution for creating 3D models from prompts or images. The target markets include video games, VR, architecture, and design.
Eclairion: high-density computers within container modules
Led by François Sabatino, Eclairion is “the premier high-density computing center in France dedicated to colocation hosting of high-density computers within container modules”. This is an unusual approach in the computing center landscape.
Mercenaries: animation, scene assembly, and rendering
Mercenaries is the company behind Guerilla Render (a scene assembly, lookdev, lighting, and rendering tool) and Rumba (a 3D animation sofware). The company will showcase these two solutions and their latest developments.
Golaem: Crowd Simulation and Beyond
Golaem is known for its Golaem Crowd tools for crowd simulation, widely used in the animation and visual effects industries. However, the company has developed new solutions in recent years. They unveiled Golaem Layout (procedural scene population) and Golaem Deep (a deep learning solution for 3D animation, accelerating rigs and generating lip-sync).
Note that Golaem and Rumba were attended the RADI-RAF late in 2023 (conferences taking place in the South of France), showcasing their solutions. We filmed the conference, in French:
For several years, 3DVF has been an official SIGGRAPH media partner. We will attend the event this year, both at the French Pavilion managed by the Cap Digital team (Antoine Allard, Bastien Litzler, and Marc Bourhis), at other booths, and in conferences.
